Assessment for work Readiness
Post-Incident | Non-Forensic | Clinically Grounded
After a critical incident or significant behavioral concern, departments sometimes need more than a simple “take a few days off.”
An Assessment for Work Readiness provides a structured clinical evaluation of an employee’s current functioning and helps departments make informed decisions about appropriate next steps.
This service is designed for current employees following an incident or concern. It is not a pre-employment psychological evaluation or formal forensic fitness-for-duty examination.
When to Consider an Assessment
A Work-Readiness Assessment may be appropriate following:
A critical or traumatic incident
An officer-involved shooting
A significant on-duty injury or event
Exposure to a particularly difficult call
Observable changes in functioning following an incident
A behavioral or emotional concern affecting work
A command-directed referral when clinical input would help determine next steps
The goal is not to label the employee.
The goal is to understand how they are functioning right now and what support, if any, may be appropriate before returning to normal duties.
What the Assessment Includes
-
Approximately Two Hours
The assessment includes a structured psychosocial and clinical interview conducted by a licensed mental health professional experienced in working with first responders and trauma-exposed professionals.
-
Current Functioning
The clinician considers factors such as:
Current symptoms and stress response
Sleep and functioning
Emotional regulation
Concentration and decision-making
Impact of the incident
Current coping and support
Ability to manage occupational demands
Need for additional treatment or recovery time
-
Written Recommendation
Following the assessment, the department receives a written report with clinically grounded recommendations to assist with administrative decision-making.
Possible recommendations may include:
Return to normal duties
Return with temporary recommendations or accommodations
Additional recovery time before returning to normal duties
Referral for therapy or other support
Additional evaluation when clinically indicated
-
An Inner Circle Work-Readiness Assessment is:
Not an MMPI or personality assessment
Not a pre-employment psychological evaluation
Not a forensic psychological evaluation
Not an ongoing therapy session
Not an Internal Affairs investigation
If your department needs a formal psychological evaluation or MMPI testing, we can help connect you with our separate psychologist-led evaluation service.
